He served as Sgt. in the U. S. Army, 14 June 1918 to 24 July 1919; he was a hotel proprietor in the Adirondacks, N. Y., including owning and operating the infamous Hotel Glenmore, site of the actual events fictionalized in An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser, on Big Moose Lake, and operating the Moosehead Inn in Old Forge, N. Y., and in Florida during the winter months.
