James Harris Fairchild, b. 25 Nov. 1817, son of Grandison Fairchild, b. 20 Apr. 1792, and Nancy Harris, b. 30 Oct. 1795, and grandson of Daniel Fairchild and Mary Buttles.

She was one of the first group of four women to be admitted to a college in the United States, but was the only one who didn't graduate, as her father's business failed.

He was the third president of Oberlin College, Ohio.
